Okay, reading is for sure better than watching TV, but television can teach you a lot of great things as well. Discovery channels will teach you about nature and the animal world for e.g. more than many books would.
I watch news more than I read newspapers. I watch credible sources like Al-jazeera and I read Al-Hayatt newspaper most of the time. I don't think Al-Hayatt is better than Al-Jazeera. They are both good in different ways.
